FAQ

What is a photo tour?

A photo tour is a guided experience through a particular area such as a neighborhood, city or region. A tour can also focus on a theme such as religious architecture, local history, ethnography or subculture.

I will design your Montreal or Quebec photo tour based on your interests and goals in our initial Skype™ or phone consultation.

Do I need to speak French to visit Montreal and Quebec?

I am fully bilingual in French and English so don’t worry about language. Most people in the Montreal vicinity are also bilingual so even if you are on your own in your hotel, a restaurant or café, you should have no problem with language.

What do I do about currency?

Montreal is an international city and so there are plenty of places to exchange your U.S. dollars, Euros or other currencies for Canadian dollars. Check with your credit card provider for details concerning international travel and currency conversion.

Do you provide photography workshops and training?

I can tailor a workshop focusing on creative concerns such as, camera settings, lighting and composition or I can help you learn to work with new equipment and technology. Feel free to talk to me about specialized photography you would like to explore such as working with models in our Skype™ or phone consultation.

How many people are permitted on each tour?

I book a maximum of one person per tour. However you can bring a spouse, partner or friend, for a maximum of three people. I want to give each participant as much attention as possible and transportation and location management tends to be more efficient with a smaller group.

What is the duration of the tour?

Tours will last as long as you wish. The minimum duration should be 4 hours. Quebec is a big place with infinite possibilities for the adventurous photographer. From the Gulf of St. Lawrence to James Bay; from the U.S. Border to the arctic, Quebec is a big place with infinite possibilities for the adventurous photographer. Talk to me about the possibilities and together we can design a photo tour that works with your timetable, budget and passions.

I am a beginner, how will I benefit from a photo tour?

A guided photo tour can provide you with new opportunities to learn and grow as a photographer. Each new location and situation will pose new challenges. During our Skype™ or phone consultation, we can design your tour around your skill level, equipment and creative ambitions.

As an advanced photographer, how will I benefit from a photo tour?

As you undoubtedly know, the challenge of new locations and visual opportunities means growth. As a veteran location manager for the film and TV industries, you will benefit from my knowledge of the best locations, local resources and contacts. I will make the necessary arrangements to make your shoot happen and can come up with contingency plans when the weather changes or other issues arise.

What photographic equipment will I need?

Come with the basic equipment you work with. I suggest you bring your favorite lenses, a tripod and a laptop with photo editing software to view and edit your work after hours. I can arrange for you to rent lighting or specialized photographic equipment as well.

I will advise you on clothing and footwear depending on the season and on the kinds of locations you wish to visit in our Skype ™ or phone consultation.

How about bad weather?

The weather in Montreal and Quebec can be unpredictable. It can provide a wide range of natural lighting and atmospherics. As a Quebec based photographer I am accustomed to exploiting these creative possibilities and as a location manager, I always have ideas for a  plan B based on your creative priorities, which we will discuss in our initial Skype™ or phone consultation.

Can you help me with accommodations, transportation, meals and entertainment?

I can pick you up from your hotel or from the airport and I will make sure you get to each location smoothly and as efficiently as possible. As a life-long Montrealer, I know all the great restaurants and entertainment venues and can advise you on those as well. Each exclusive tour is built around your desires

What if I need to reschedule my photo tour?

I will do my best to be flexible if we have to reschedule your tour. As I am sure you understand a date change will have to work with my calendar as well.

What are the costs associated with the tour?

You will need to set a budget, which will help you define the length of your tour and other details like costs for any locations that aren’t free, studios, equipment rental, hotels, food and so forth. A basic 4-hour photo tour starts at $400 CDN, which includes pick up and drop off.

We will discuss how tailoring your tour to your budget in our Skype ™ or phone consultation. When you decide to book your tour, I will require a 25% non-refundable deposit.
